The Mathematics of Beauty > Point

What's the Point?Maple seed

Geometry describes the point literally, as an element that has position, but no dimensions. The metaphorical concept of point alludes to something that is existent, as opposed to non-existent. Something and nothing, even the concept itself is binary. In essence, the idea of point, contains the existential duality of Shakespeare's ". . . to be or not to be . . ." and Descartes's ". . . I think, therefore I am . . ." The point is an existential crisis, and the ineffable name of the Creator, sometimes called The Big Bang. In essence, the point inherently possesses potential, as that of a seed before germination. It is the beginning of coming into being.

The Pythagoreans, historically speaking, are the most well known as the first to describe the point as the foundation of everything. There are esoteric texts such as the Bahir and the Sefer Yetzirah, attributed to Abraham, that precede the Pythagoreans by millenia. Occam's razor states that one should proceed to simpler theories until simplicity can be traded for greater explanatory power. For the same of simplicity I will start with the Pythagoreans.
