Measurement and Proportion
A line is considered to have one dimension, while a point has zero dimensions. A line has no thickness and extends infinitely. A line segment is the portion of a line between two points. A line segment is quantifiable. Measuring a straight line segment requires less complexity than that of a curved line segment. Therefore, think of a straight line segment such as a piece of string pulled tight at but ends. If we divide the string at any point we create a ratio of part to whole, a proportional relationship.
